There is a lot of confusion about the structure of the Internet and the classification of the networks that make up the Internet. This confusion stems from the combination of technology and business pressures that dynamically evolve the Internet interconnect model and from the sales and marketing initiatives that misrepresent the nature of Internet connectivity and confuse the differences between tiers.
