NTT Communications conducted extensive research to capture detailed requirements regarding the camera and broadcasting system specification and operation of the studio before submitting the optimum real-time streaming video delivery architecture. Within the studio, only an encoder is placed to encode the video while the streaming server is hosted by NTT Communications. This greatly reduced the operation load on CyberAgent as SCD was utilized for content delivery to end users.
AmebaStudio opened as scheduled and quickly became a popular spot for live audience viewers as described at earlier. The site recorded a maximum of 1,500 simultaneous users and delivered in excess of 460 MB of data over a peak period. Through the launch, there were no complaints received from the viewers regarding the system performance.
Mr. Fujii states, "Our planned scale is not at the current level. Our objective is to grow the service to a major media such that the current maximum number becomes an average."
To achieve their growth metrics for the service, CyberAgent is developing more attractive features and service enhancements. For example, at the end of May, the cameras were increased to 3 to capture the expressions of the guests from different angles and images of the fans in front of the studio. Viewers are now able to switch between content types such as live video and archived video, and also see 3 types of content from 3 screens on the web at the same time. Further, new "game-like" features will be added, allowing viewers more interaction with guests in the studio, Mr. Fujii stated.
The role of SCD to provide a stable service operation will be increasingly important while new attractive features are continuously added.
