Security Socket Layer is a protocol encrypting data and securing the data communication and was developed by Netscape Communication, Inc. The secured data communications are realized with digital server certification authorized by a certification authority (CA), a public key, and a secret key. SSL is often used in EC sites to secure shopping transactions.
